Abstract

Heart Failure (HF) is a syndrome of high prevalence and incidence mainly in the elderly, and projections show an increase in its prevalence in the coming years. Chronic condition and high mortality has been considered as one of the main indications for palliative care. There is a need for valid and accurate instruments to assess the quality of life of patients with HF in palliative care. Among them we have the Palliative care Outcomes Scale (POS), one of the most used for this purpose. In Brazil, POS has not been tested in patients with HF. This methodological study will analyze the psychometric properties of POS-Br in a sample of adult and elderly patients with HF, hospitalized or undergoing clinical follow-up at the outpatient clinics of the Cardiology Division of the Hospital das Clínicas de Ribeirão Preto. Sociodemographic and clinical data will be collected through individual interviews and consultation of patients' charts. Participants will respond to the validated Portuguese versions of the POS-Br and Minnesota Living with Heart Failure Questionnaire. The following psychometric properties will be analyzed: convergent construct validation, of known groups, structural and reliability (internal consistency). Data will be processed and analyzed in IBM SPSS software version 24.0 for Windows. We will use Pearson's correlation tests, Student's t-tests for independent samples, and confirmatory factor analysis (with the SPSS Amos software). The significance level adopted will be 5%.
