Study of the activities of the antioxidant proteins thioredoxin and thioredoxin reductase, associated with the development of human colon, breast and Melanoma tumors

Abstract

The greater or lesser prevalence of Nitric Oxide (NO) or Reactive Oxygen Species (ROSs) associated with different stages of tumor development should guarantee the survival of tumor cells in each stage of development. This balance could potentially modulate the oncogenic signaling pathways responsible for the different stages of tumor development. In this project we will carry out in vivo tests to elucidate the role of the antioxidant proteins Thioredoxin (Trx-1) and Trx Reductase in the regulation of changes in the intracellular redox environment caused by variations in the levels of ROS and NO, during tumor development. We will use cell cultures obtained from primary tumors and metastases as experimental models. Colon tumors (SW480 - primary and SW620 - metastasis), triple negative breast (HC1187 - primary and MDA-MB-231 - metastasis), and melanoma (A-375 - primary and SK-Mel-1) will be used - metastasis).
