Abstract

This project seeks to advance the theoretical front of the fields of quantum information and quantum thermodynamics. In recent works, many important features of quantum systems that cannot be fully understood with traditional approaches, such as the quantum dynamical mappings formalism, have been thoroughly analyzed using a new formalism known as the process tensor framework and the results obtained there have significantly contributed to our comprehension of such features. This indicates that the possible applications of the process tensor in the description of non-Markovian processes can potentially provide many more crucial insights to some of the main problems of the twenty-first century Physics, such as the relation between information and thermodynamics and the emergence of thermodynamic behavior in a purely quantum universe. The general objective of this project is to explore the process tensor framework to analyze quantum systems that undergo non-Markovian dynamics and obtain new relations between several important properties of these systems.
