Abstract

This scientific initiation project, linked to the Young Investigator Grant Phase 2 FAPESP 2018/15123-4, will carry out a pioneering determination of modern pollen spectra obtained from surface soils of different physiognomies of the igapó forests of the Negro River, Amazonia. These pollen signatures are essential information for paleoecological studies of the late Quaternary in the Amazon Basin, as they allow improving the precision and accuracy of paleovegetation and paleoclimatic interpretations carried out from marine and continental sediment cores. Until now, modern pollen spectra of different physiognomies of the igapó forests of the Negro River are poorly studied and, as they are not available in the scientific literature, they hamper advances in paleoenvironmental interpretations. The results obtained within this project will directly collaborate with FAPESP project 2018/15123-4 already underway. (AU)
