Abstract

Chronic Kidney Disease (CKD) is a condition with high mortality and morbidity, being the 9th leading cause of death in Brazil. There are several causes of CKD. Under physiological conditions, cells show the formation of oxidizing compounds such as reactive oxygen species and reactive nitrogen species. The kidney, being a highly energetic organ, is particularly vulnerable to oxidative stress and damage caused by it. ResistAid" is a dietary supplement with a high concentration of plant metabolites such as arabinogalactan that have antioxidant and immunomodulating capacities, thus preventing the initiation or progression of oxidation chain reactions. Considering the role of oxidative stress in the pathophysiology of CKD, it is proposed that this supplement has the ability to attenuate the progression of this disease, with improvement in biochemical and well-being parameters. Thus, this study proposes the evaluation of the therapeutic effects of the ResistAid" supplement in Wistar rats with CKD. This evaluation will be done by quantifying the gene expression of antioxidant enzymes (CAT, SOD1, GPX1, and GPX4) of the nuclear factor erythroid 2-related factor 2 (Nfe2l2), of the Nuclear Factor Kappa B subunit 1 (Nfkb1), of the metalloproteinase inhibitor 3 (Timp3) and hypoxia-inducible factor 1± (HIF-1±), biochemical evaluation and animal welfare.
