This research proposes the study of the ways of living and the domesticity related to the "vilas operárias", built between 1908 and 1914, the period when the biggest number of those houses were built, under the municipal law n.1098, from 1908. For such, the main research object is the private "vilas operárias", a housing typology amply built in the São Paulo of the time by individual owners as a way of making an income within the logic of the rental housing market from before the "Lei do Inquilinato" of 1942. The intention is to contribute with the discussion of the ways of living utilizing this type of housing provision. Even though this debate has been approached in researches about the industrial "vilas operárias" (those built by industrials for the use of their workers), the same has not been done for their private counterparts, especially in the field of architecture. The private "vilas" were amply built in the city of São Paulo, becoming, therefor, an important form of housing provision for urban workers of the time and area under study. The research will be done in three fronts: the study and analyses of hygienist literature that gave support to the conceptualization of this typology, the analyzes of blueprints of those houses, and the study of characters (technicians, public promoters, builders, owners and habitants) involved in the process.
