Abstract This project is devoted to an in-depth study of the étale fundamental group of an algebraic variety, and to some of its applications. In particular, we shall study the surprising Belyi theorem, which characterises algebraic curves defined over number fields as finite coverings of the complex projective line ramified at three points. | |
