Incidence of COVID-19 in adults with cleft lip and palate enrolled at HRAC-USP

Abstract

Considering the coexistence of patients with cleft lip and palate (CLP) and COVID-19, as well as the hypothesis of the power of modulation between congenital malformation and the consequent existence of morphofunctional changes in the upper airways, widely demonstrated in the literature, and the new pathology, the present project aims to assess the incidence of COVID-19 in adult patients with CLP regularly enrolled at the Hospital for Rehabilitation of Craniofacial Anomalies of the University of São Paulo (HRAC-USP), who developed COVID-19, during the years 2020 and 2021 and characterize this population socio-demographically. Materials and methods: the study will be carried out at HRAC-USP with a population of patients diagnosed with COVID-19. The researchers will apply a structured questionnaire by telephone or online for data measurement. The data will be compared to the data of the general Brazilian population, informed by the WHO website. Expected results: it is hypothesized that adult patients with cleft lip and palate are more likely to develop COVID-19 due to the pre-existing condition, which can be considered a clinical predictor of severity.(AU)
