Abstract

With the recent experimental measurement of g - 2of the muon at Fermilab, this observable shows now a tension at level of 4.2 standard deviations with respect to the standard model predictions. In the present research project, we will build a realistic model for the cross-section for e+e- to hadrons, from which the hadronic vacuum polarization contribution to the muon g -2 can be extracted using a dispersion relation. The student will be introduced to particle physics, quantum field theory, and to the methods employed in the state-of-the-art evaluation of g - 2 within the Standard Model.(AU)
