Abstract

Diabetes type 2 (DM2) accounts for more than 90% of the disease cases around the world. During rehabilitation of titanium implants in patients with this metabolic disorder, their care must be doubled as there are higher chances of post-surgery failure and complications. As such, the objective of this paper consists in evaluating the effect of alternative systemic therapies under peri-implant repair in rats with Diabetes type 2 treated or not with Bauhinia fortificata. To accomplish it, 36 rats were utilized, organized in 4 groups: 1 - Control (NG): normoglycemic animals; 2 - Control + Bauhinia fortificata (NGBf): normoglycemic animals treated with Bauhinia fortificata; 3 - Diabetic type 2 (DM2): Animals with diabetes type 2; 4 - Diabetic type 2 + Bauhinia fortificata (DM2Bf): Animals with diabetes type 2 treated with Bauhinia fortificata. All these groups receive conventional implants of grade IV titanium with double attack. The animals in groups DM2 will have diabetes induced by a hyperlipidemic diet (cafeteria diet) alongside low doses of streptozotocin injections. After proof that diabetes type 2 is present, groups NGBf and DM2Bf will receive daily doses of Bauhinia fortificata tea (150 g/L) for two weeks. After these two weeks, all animals will be undergoing extraction surgery of the upper first molars and the installation of the implants. Euthanasia will be performed 28 days after the surgery, and counter-torque of the installed implants in the tibia and femurs will also be removed, so that the computed microtomography of its distal portion can be made, alongside mechanical tests. The results will be tabled with a statistic test with a base significance level of 5%.(AU)
