Abstract

The success of the installation of osseointegrated implants is related to several factors including collagen metabolism, related to synthesis and activity of matrix metalloproteinases (MMPs), which shows effective role on the formation and maintenance of a peri-implant biological sealing. The over-expression of MMPs by oral mucosa cells can negatively interfere with osseointegration and biological sealing processes. Therefore, modulation of these enzymes could favor these tissue events. The aim of this investigation will be to evaluate the effect of a bio modification of titanium surface by addition of a bioflavonoid, naringenin (NA), on the adhesion, proliferation, and metabolism of gingival fibroblasts. Titanium discs will be subjected to impregnation with NA and gingival fibroblasts will be seeded onto these distinct surfaces. Cell proliferation (prestoBlue), adhesion ( direct fluorescence), and MMP synthesis (ELISA) will be evaluated. (AU)
