Abstract

This research project is part of the ongoing research entitled "Development of flexible and multifunctional furniture model with sustainable design strategies: adaptability for home office in compact housing", FAPESP process 2021/02577-0, in which its main objective is to develop the projective process and production in reduced size of model of flexible and multifunctional furniture that adapts to the different needs of use in the context of home office in small housing, with an emphasis on applying collapsible concepts, projective strategies for sustainable furniture and use of materials from renewable sources. This application for the Bolsa Estágio de Pesquisa no Exterior (BEPE) aims to deepen knowledge on innovative products for furniture design with emphasis on sustainable guidelines and space saving design for home office in small spaces on the European market, as well as develop virtual modellings for digital fabrication, thus promoting the integration between the projects of research (ongoing in Brazil and BEPE). This research project follows a methodological structure which is organized into: a) Theoretical deepening of sustainable design and space saving design applied to product design; b) Application of synchronous analysis on similar and correlated products from the European market, specially in the Italian market; c) Investigation of virtual modeling tools and production processes applied to physical models in product design; d) Definition of project guidelines and projective development with generation and previous selection of alternatives; e) Registration and elaboration of the research results. Finally, it is expected that the present project contributes to the theoretical and practical complementation of the ongoing research in Brazil and to future research in the areas of Product Design, Sustainable Design and Innovative Design.
