Abstract

Different comprehensions of if and how to attend to social issues in occupational therapy and its professional critical action can compose references for theoretical and practical elaborations that favor social justice. For effective professional action, it is necessary to enact a reading of social issues that articulate the micro and macro-social dimensions, dealing with the limits of an approach based solely on the individual, an approach that is very present in the profession. Building partnerships to diversity lenses in data analysis and interpretation within doctoral research carried out in Brazil and that contribute to the consolidation of our theoretical framework, we list three central objectives for this project. The first of them aims at bringing together the theoretical-methodological constructs that have been formulated through the Critical Occupational Science research laboratory, headed by Dr. Laliberte Rudman, at the university that will receive us. The second focuses on the knowledge of the Canadian reality, with regard to theoretical propositions and care offerings for the people dissident of genders and sexualities. The third objective encompasses the collective interests of our research group in Brazil, in strengthening existing international partnerships and creating new ones. For that, we will make use of technical visits, study of new references and approaches, seminars and supervisions for discussion and forwarding of analyses. The aims are for this experience to: deepen relevant analysis to the data set that will substantiate the future thesis, and further our group's internationalization efforts in the field of social occupational therapy, contributing to the strengthening of the technical, social and political commitment of the profession in addressing the needs of populations that experience dissidence in genders and sexualities, from a plural worldview in the production of care in the scope of occupational therapy.
