Is the association between proanthocyanidin and palm oil able to reduce the initial erosion enamel?

This in vitro study will evaluate the effectiveness of Proanthocyanidin and Palm Oil isolated and associated in preventing initial erosion. Bovine teeth will be used which will be divided into 9 groups (n = 9): G1- Elmex erosion protection (positive control), G2- Deionized water(negative control), G3- 100% palm oil, G4- 6.5% Proanthocyanidin, G5- 2% Proanthocyanidin,G6- 100% Palm Oil + 6.5% Proanthocyanidin, G7- 6.5% Proanthocyanidin + Oil 100% palmoil, G8- 100% palm oil + 2% Proanthocyanidin, G9- 2% Proanthocyanidin + 100% Palm Oil. The acquired pellicle will be formed in situ by using a palatal intraoral appliance, containing the enamel blocks. The treatment will be carried out by applying the solutions for 30 seconds. Soon after, the enamel blocks will be submitted to demineralization by citric acid (0.5%, pH2.5) for 30 seconds. Then, they will be rinsed in deionized water to cease the demineralization process for measuring erosive demineralization. The response variable will be percentage of hardness loss by evaluating the initial (before treatment) and final (after initial erosion)hardness. Data will be checked for normality and homogeneity. If they pass these tests, ANOVA will be obtained followed by Tukey's test (p <0.05).(AU)
