Parere sull`architettura and the legacy of G.B. Piranesi to the critical history of architecture

Abstract

With this internship abroad of 5 months at the Università degli Studi di Roma La Sapienza, Facoltà di Architetura, under de supervision of prof. Dra. Antonella Romano, we intend to conclude our survey that was abruptly interrupted by the exceptional situation COVID in 19th March 2020, completing the access to sources that could be found only in Rome and constitute a fundamental material to enrich the following topics of our Post-Doctoral research: 1. to add information about the relevance of Giovanni Battista Piranesi as architect during the 18th Century; 2. to verify the way that Piranesi`s works were revisited during the 20th Century contributing to the history of architecture`s debates; 3. the new approaches towards Piranesi`s works and its influence in the contemporary critical of architecture. In order to fulfil these objectives we will develop Bibliographical, Documental and Iconographic surveys, specially consulting the original works of Piranesi in Biblioteca Apostolica Vaticana, Biblioteca dell'Accademia Nazionale dei Lincei e Corsiniana, Biblioteca dell`Accademia Nazionale di San Luca (Rome) and assessing titles disposed in Italian libraries according to the Catalogo del Servizio Bibliotecario Nazionale. Such material will allow the conclusion of our reflections that will be applied to complement the general aim of our research which is: to study in depth the way that Piranesi used the ancient roman`s ruins as instruments for the construction of his architectural reflection, considering one of his masterpieces - Parere sull'architettura (1765) - in order to contribute in the Brazilian Academic field with a more detailed analysis about this influent architect.
