Adolescents' experiences during the COVID-19 pandemic

Abstract

The dissemination of COVID-19 and the sanitary measures adopted for its control may have caused aggravations or exacerbated psychological problems in the population. In this sense, this study particularizes the experience of adolescence during the pandemic period and aims to investigate the positive and negative impacts associated with the COVID-19 pandemic among Brazilian adolescents. This is a cross-sectional and descriptive research proposal, with data collection through an online questionnaire application with adolescents. The questionnaire was developed for this study from the scientific literature. Descriptive statistical analyzes will be applied. The data will also consider the emergencies and disasters psychology approach. It is hypothesized, based on the scientific literature, that adolescents may develop negative feelings and disruptive behaviors during the COVID-19 pandemic. But they may also experience a good understanding of the seriousness of the problem, which would promote greater adaptation, proactive behavior and willingness to adhere to medical care to control the contagion of the disease. Furthermore, by approaching the private experience of adolescents in the pandemic as a psychosocial emergency, it will be problematized how to help this public to deal with unfavorable and adverse conditions, finding alternative means to meet social and psychological needs.
