Abstract

In March 2020, the Hospital das Clínicas of the Faculty of Medicine of the University of São Paulo mobilized all its Complex and several administrative areas to face the SARS-COV2 pandemic. Among these areas, the Technical and Scientific Humanization Group of the hospital developed a plan of programmatic actions for humanization, involving employees, students and volunteers. The main humanization actions humanization actions developed for patients with COVID-19 and frontline health workers were: virtual visit between patients and their families, welcoming the families of patients who died, rounds of conversation to provide psychosocial support for nursing teams and physical activities for frontline health workers. In this research project, the aim is to study perceptions of people who were assisted or who worked in these humanization actions. A mixed methods study was designed. In the qualitative approach, it will investigate the subjective experience and the impressions of 102 health workers and volunteers who carried out the actions. Interviews will be carried out by videoconference following a script of open questions. The empirical data will be analyzed with the technique of content analysis and thematic analysis of qualitative research. In the quantitative approach, the opinion of 350 patients, family members and employees attended, as to satisfaction with the humanization actions. Interviews will be made by telephone, following a structured questionnaire with replies in a Likert scale and an open question. Data collected will be analyzed as to the relative frequency of satisfaction and dissatisfaction for each item. For the comparison test between categorical variables, Pearson's chi-square statistical test or Fisher's exact test will be performed at a significance level of 0.05. The discursive answers will be analyzed as proposed for the qualitative data. It is hoped that this study will deepen the evaluation of the humanization actions carried out during the confrontation with the pandemic, contributing to the memory and learning of the institution in such unique times.
