Abstract

This proposal aims to investigate the variation in volume, heat and salt transport associated with the western boundary current system: Brazilian Current (BC) and Intermediate Western Boundary Current (IWBC) over the southeast Brazilian continental margin between 20°S and 31°S, a wide region where the largest portion of the Brazilian population is found. Transport calculations will be carried out by layers of water masses present in the region: Tropical Water (TW), South Atlantic Central Water, (SACW), Antarctic Intermediate Water (AAIA) and Upper Circumpolar Water (UCPW). The inference of the barotropic and baroclinic components of both currents will also be carried out, as well as the association and values of the velocity cores in terms of the variations occurring in TW and AAIA and their isopicnal interfaces, respectively. The work will be conducted from 67 years (1950-2017) of dated and assimilated global simulation of the OGCM For the Earth Simulator (OFES) model and GLORYS (Global Reanalysis) of the CMEMS (Copernicus Marine Environment Monitoring Service) and comparisons between them. Efforts to validate the OFES was be carried out by comparing it with synoptic data collected hydrographic and altimetry. (AU)
