Analysis of pollen morphology in intergeneric hybrids of Ligeriinae (Gesneriaceae)

Abstract

Will be investigated the pollen morphology of seven species and six intergeneric hybrids (being one putative natural hybrid) of Paliavana Vell. ex Vand., Sinningia Nees and Vanhouttea Lem (Ligeriinae, Gesneriaceae), aiming to describe their morphology and elucidate diagnostic characters among them, in order to contribute to subsequent studies involving taxonomy of Ligeriinae, as well as to expand the knowledge on intergeneric hybrids of Gesneriaceae. The pollen material will be obtained through a visit and collection in a reference cultivation house in Gesneriaceae (Sítio Primavera, Mogi das Cruzes, São Paulo) and in herbaria. The pollen grains will be acetolyzed, measured, described and photomicrographed under light microscopy and, when necessary, electromicrographs will betaken under scanning electron microscopy, in order to obtain better details of the exineornamentation. Quantitative data will be treated appropriately to the size of the samples. (AU)
