Abstract

The photodynamic therapy is an alternative for conventional infections treatments given its low probability to cause microbiology resistance. The purpose of this project is to carry out a phytochemical study of Senna spp. fractions and test their in vitro potential as monotherapy in antimicrobial photodynamic therapy on Candida albicans and Staphylococcus aureus monotypic and heterotypic biofilms. Fractionation and chemical characterization of Senna macranthera, Senna reticulata and Senna splendida extracts will be performed. Biofilms will be formed for 48 h and then submitted to antimicrobial photodynamic therapy with 0,50 mg/mL of the extracts fractions. Overall nine groups will be studied: G1- negative control, G2- S. splendida fractions, G3- S. reticulata fractions, G4- S. macranthera fractions, G5- light, G6- photodynamic therapy with S. splendida fractions, G7- photodynamic therapy with S. reticulata fractions, G8- photodynamic therapy with S. macranthera fractions and G9- medium control. Color change evaluation of bovine teeth, internalization test to analyze the penetration of extracts into biofilms and cytotoxicity tests will also be performed. For statistical analysis, the SPSS 20.0 software will be used and a 5% significance level established.
