Abstract

The central objective of the main doctoral research is to reconstruct Husserl's phenomenology of perception in the period of the Logical Investigations in light of the contemporary conceptualism-debate of perceptual experience. The purpose is to investigate whether the claim of Husserlian phenomenology to be a science of the self-givenness is an instance of the so-called "myth of the given". This immediately leads us to Sellars, who formulated the critique of the given and, more generally, of the "entire framework of givenness". We propose, in this internship research, a more in-depth investigation of this critique of "the given" and "the givenness" and of its connection to Husserlian phenomenology. We believe this will provide the necessary background for the reconstruction of Husserl's early phenomenology of perception in our doctoral dissertation. Benefitting from the recent investigations that have been carried out by Prof. Dr. Daniele De Santis on this subject, as well as from the long tradition in phenomenology of the Department of Philosophy and Religious Studies to which he is associated, we consider Charles University Prague to be the ideal place to pursue this key problem of the givenness, which is the general objective of this internship research project. The specific objectives are to prepare the final part of the doctoral dissertation and to strengthen the partnership between the phenomenological research center of the Department of Philosophy and Religious Studies at Charles University and the research institution to which the doctoral project is related to, i.e. University of São Paulo, specifically our phenomenology research group, GEFen (Grupo de Estudos em Fenomenologia), of the Philosophy Department.
