Abstract

Ambroxol hydrochloride is a mucolytic agent and has shown to have antimicrobial action. The objective of this research will be to analyze this antimicrobial action, the pH, and the volumetric solubility of calcium hydroxide paste associated with different concentrations of ambroxol hydrochloride. For calcium release, the pastes will be inserted into acrylic teeth that will have their tips immersed in water and will be scanned in the initial periods, after 7 days, 15 days, and 30 days. For pH, the pastes will be inserted in acrylic teeth with canal and will have their apexes immersed in 10mL of ultra-pure water. After the 7, 15, and 30 days period, the water's pH will be checked with the aid of a peagometer. To analyze the antimicrobial action, Enterococcus faecalis biofilm will be induced in hydroxyapatite discs. The pastes will be placed in contact with the contaminated discs for a period of 7 days. After this period, the pastes will be removed, the live/dead dye will be placed, and the discs will be analyzed through confocal microscopy regarding the percentage of live bacteria and the biovolume. Data will be compared statistically. (AU)
