Associated to the scholarship:20/05374-0 - Investigation of an alternative to enhance the protection of the acquired salivary pellicle against dental erosion by the association of film-forming polymers and sodium fluoride, BP.DR

The addition of film-forming polymers to fluoride solutions has been showing promising results for the control of dental erosion. This study will investigate in vitro the modification of the acquired salivary pellicle (SP) with different film-forming polymers associated or not to sodium fluoride (225 ppm F-) for the protection against dental erosion. The polymers to be tested will be: Carbopol, Gantrez, Linear Sodium Polyphosphate (LPP), Propylene Glycol Alginate (PGA), and Chitosan. Distilled water will be the negative control and a solution of NaF and stannous chloride will be the positive control, totaling 13 experimental groups. One hundred and thirty specimens of bovine enamel will be submitted to an erosive cycling model of 5 cycles. Each cycle will consist of incubation in clarified human saliva for 1 min, followed by treatment with the experimental solutions for 1 min (n=10/group), for SP modification. Then, the specimens will be incubated again in saliva for more 28 min, and submitted to an erosive challenge with 1% citric acid (pH=3.6) for 3 min. The enamel reflection intensity and the percentage of surface microhardness change will be evaluated after the first and second cycles, and the surface loss at the end of cycling. The data obtained will be analyzed according to the appropriate statistics, considering ±=0.05. (AU)
