Abstract

Pressure Ulcers are injuries to the skin or tissue that usually occur as a result of other diseases that lead to a patient's loss of mobility, who becomes bedridden, leading to pressure in a specific area and decreased blood circulation. These lesions have different damage depth levels to the skin and can reach muscles and bones. This problem causes serious pain, impairing patients quality of life and also increases mortality rate. In this context, it is essential the development of new topical formulations for prevention and treatment of Pressure Ulcers, aiming pain relief, prevention of microbiological contamination, in addition to more efficient healing, and low cost. Therefore, the present project proposes the development of a membrane for healing of Pressure Ulcers, using carrageenan and peel extract from Spondias mombin L., natural raw materials with great healing potential, but little explored so far. Adding to this fact, silicone will be used in the formulation, allowing it to stick to skin and not to the wound, which promotes greater relief to patient, in addition to containing an agent with antimicrobial activity, which will prevent microbiological contamination. This formulation will be developed with pain relief and functional effects in mind, increasing patient's comfort. The developed membrane will be analyzed for its aspect, morphology, physicochemical, microbiological properties, mucoadhesiveness, cytotoxicity and healing potential. (AU)
