This project aims at the synthesis, characterization and application of photoanodes produced from the heterojunctions of bismuth vanadate (BiVO4) and copper oxide (CuO) with graphitic carbon nitride (g-C3N4) for the photoelectrocatalytic degradation of effluents from textile industry. The oxides will be produced by an environmentally friendly route using polyvinyl alcohol as a solvent and applied on titanium substrate, by brushing, for the formation of g-C3N4/BiVO4 and g-C3N4/CuO. The oxide synthesis parameters will be studied to obtain films with greater photocatalytic activity. The physical characterization of the films will be carried out by X-ray diffraction techniques, scanning electron microscopy and dispersive energy analysis, Raman spectroscopy and band-gap determination. The electrochemical characterizations will be performed by voltammetric techniques and electrochemical impedance spectroscopy. Photocurrent studies will be performed for BiVO4, g-C3N4 and CuO films individually and the results will be compared with the heterojunctions of g-C3N4/BiVO4 and g-C3N4/CuO. The efficiency of pollutant species degradation processes during photoelectrocatalytic experiments will be evaluated using instrumental analytical techniques of UV / Vis spectrophotometry, high performance liquid chromatography and analysis of total organic carbon content.
