Abstract

The Atlantic Forest has historically been degraded by human action. Such degradation has reduced this biome to small, degraded fragments that make a distinct contribution to biodiversity conservation. In recent decades, for various reasons, the restoration of new forests in the Atlantic Forest, dominated by natural regeneration, has outpaced deforestation. In view of this, the present study aims to evaluate the role and potential of new forests in the state of São Paulo for biodiversity conservation through structure, richness, diversity, and floristic composition. The study area comprises four typologies of native forests in São Paulo state (forest restoration plantations, natural forest regeneration, degraded forest remnant, conserved forest remnant). Six plots will be installed in each typology, where all individuals with DAP e 5 cm will be counted and identified. For evaluation of the structure, the value index of importance, basal area and the absolute and relative parameters referring to density, dominance and frequency for the community of each typology will be measured. Local diversity and equity will be obtained through the Shannon-Wiener and Pielou index,respectively. The composition will be measured by the analysis of similarity ANOSIM with the percentage of contribution of each taxon obtained by SIMPER analysis. To test the variation of species composition between typologies will be calculated at ²-diversity. (AU)
