Abstract

Due to the great importance that natural ventilation has on thermal comfort, and since it is recommended for most of the Brazilian climates. Despite this, researches indicated a low quality of natural ventilation in Brazilian buildings, especially in social housing, which means impacts the life quality of millions of people in the country. In addition, 15% of residential buildings in Brazil occur in "H" shape, being a statistically significant portion, especially if we consider the country's proportions. Although, in a literature review it wasn't found researches about the natural ventilation of these buildings interior. Also, there is no pressure Coefficient (Cp) databases available for this buildings (relevant data for simplifying simulations of natural ventilation), or publications on experiments in wind tunnel, which indicate that the subject worth exploring. Therefore, the object of the study is the optimization of "H" shaped buildings proportion, and the objective is to improve their natural ventilation. For such, it will be performed an evaluation of the ventilation potential through wind tunnel experiments and Computational Fluid Dynamics simulations (CFD- Cpsimulator). Also, interior partition of the building will be analyzed throughout Energy Building Simulation (Energy plus), using Airflownetwork coupled which the CFD simulation data to include the ventilation in the model. Finally, another resulting product of this work will be a Cp database for "H" shaped buildings. Which this study it is expected inform architects and engineers in early design phase enabling more efficient designs of natural ventilation systems. Furthermore, the mentioned database will further the researchers access to natural ventilation simulations in BES software, reducing results uncertainties. Finally, this study is oriented towards social inclusion, as the products of this research will result in benefits for both researchers and residents of these buildings, optimizing the use of natural ventilation and reducing the cooling costs.
