Abstract

Environmental stresses are extremely harmful to plants, limiting their growth and development. Galactinol synthase (GolS) is considered a key enzyme in the biosynthesis of oligosaccharides of the raffinose family (RFOs), and is closely related to abiotic stresses. The objective of this study is to identify and molecularly characterize the GolS gene, based on information available in the Phaseolus vulgaris L. genome database. Considering the evidence that global climate change will affect agricultural productivity, efforts that allow the characterization of the gene GolS in P. vulgaris L. are extremely important, as they will contribute to the understanding of the adaptive mechanisms of this species, in addition to a greater understanding of the mechanisms of responses to water deficit induced by PEG.
