Crisis of democracy and women's representation: the dialogue between literature in an interdisciplinary perspective

Abstract

Based on the assumption that some of the countries with the best democratic performances are also references in female participation in institutional policy, this Scientific Initiation Project objective to search how the production of the crisis of contemporary democracies and the literature on female representation is associated. The Project proposes to carry out a conceptual mapping discussing whether there are meaningful relations or limits between the literature, including a production included in the period from 2010 to 2020 to contemplate the main processes and events that may alter the reflection about it. Based on the bibliographic review, we also seek to identify the legal and institutional arrangements of the Brazilian political regime and how they matter in the women representation in positions of power in Brazil, since the Constitution of 1988, to formulate hypotheses about the Brazilian case. Thus, a perspective that favors Brazilian production in an interface between Law, Political Science, and Public Policies is adopted. Therefore, the paper discusses the approximation of the theories of democracies crisis to the feminist theories of representation.
