Abstract

This project aims to show how non-classical states of light could be generated using dipole-dipole interactions in disordered cold clouds of neutral atoms. Dipole-dipole interactions can lead to non-classical atomic states, yet the possibility to generate multi-photon states with these states and in free space remains largely unexplored. Inspired by the antiblockade mechanism in Rydberg atoms, we will investigate how pairs of photons may be produced by specifically addressing multi-excitation states when transitions through few-excitation states are not favored. Then, the emission of bundles of N photons from N-atom systems will be studied, with a special focus on disorder effects.
