Abstract

Protein Posttranslational Modifications (PTMs) link to metabolic states through their dependence on precursor molecules such as ATP or acetyl-CoA. This is also true for PTMs of histones which are an important facet of gene regulation. The newly discovered range of histone acylations, such as crotonylation, adds a new layer of complexity to this molecular process. The nexus between histone modifications and metabolism may be particularly important in the intestinal epithelium. We will employ state-of-the-art approaches, including single cell transcriptome and chromatin analysis, to reveal how alternative histone acylations coordinate gene expression with metabolism in the intestinal epithelium.
