Abstract

The deployment of clouds to store and process information has recently attracted a great deal of interest from mobile operators, internet service providers and researchers due to their high potential for information processing capacity, cost reduction through sharing of infrastructure and improvement of the energy efficiency of wireless networks. This project aims to develop innovative solutions to improve future mobile internet access, the education of human resources in telecommunications with expertise in wireless access to the internet and the use of clouds, the dissemination of knowledge through specialized publications and the technology transfer between universities, research institutes and the telecommunications industry. Specifically, this project proposes the study and development of new concepts, advanced algorithms and applications for internet access through 5th generation wireless networks based on the exploitation of clouds. In particular, the activities in this project include the investigation of new transmission techniques based on multicarrier transmission with non-orthogonal carriers, transmit and receive signal processing techniques at the access points linked to the clouds, medium access protocols, new approaches to resource allocation, compression and decompression algorithms and physical-layer security techniques. In addition, the project also proposes the integration of the proposed techniques and the construction of a software defined radio prototype in order to verify their effectiveness and applications.
