Creation of a support library for custom web applications for sphingolipids in head and neck cancer

Abstract

For a proper exploration of the patterns observed in lipidomic experiments, advanced knowledge in multiple disciplines is required. Multidisciplinary collaboration can promote the development of applications that allow the use by the experimentalist, with a focus on the interpretation of results and generation of hypotheses, while the bioinformatician focuses on the technical infrastructure, and on the assumptions of computational statistics methods, for choosing the most appropriate models to respond to working hypotheses. This scientific initiation project aims to support the multidisciplinary collaboration between the Laboratory of Markers and Cell Signaling in Cancer (LMSCC) and the of Computational Chemical-Biology Laboratory (LQBC) in the development of libraries for web applications to analyze lipidomics data from head and neck samples. The laboratories are currently developing the pyLipids tool (http://seriema.fcfrp.usp.br:5030/lmscc/), a web application for univariate and multivariate statistical analysis, this project aims to expand the tool's functionalities, as well as improve its usability, through continuous interaction with students developing experiments at the LMSCC.
