Abstract

The project aims to carry out a comparative analysis of the United States' foreign policy in the international system and the condition of its position within that system as portrayed in the scientific journal Foreign Affairs between Barack Obama's second presidential term (2013-2016) and Donald Trump's first term (2017-2020) through Critical Theory. The critical approach proposes an analysis of scientific production in its material context, in such a way after contextualizing the relations of the institution responsible for the journal, the think tank Council on Foreign Relations with the international relations academy, the multinational private sector and north-american government bureaucracy of foreign relations, we analyze the texts dealing with the concept of Grand Strategy in the magazine, Grand Strategy is a concept used by the American academy of international relations to deal with the country's action and situation in the international system. We use quantitative and qualitative methodological tools for the analysis of the selected Foreign Affairs text, as a quantitative tool we use the word analysis software AntConc and VOSviewer and for a critical quantitative interpretation of the text we use the following analysis categories established in the work: (I) Evaluation of foreign policy (II) Diagnosis of leadership (III) Advise. The theoretical evaluations made in Foreign Affairs about the changes in the country's international policy between the two administrations in the North American government are analyzed through the Critical Theory prism, in which the scientific text is analyzed and contrasted with the specific interests of social groups present in the material conditions in which the magazine is produced.
