In the state of São Paulo, in the last ten years, more than doubled the planted area and tripled production. In this region, despite the considerable economic and social relevance of Culture, for more than a decade the predominant genotypes have been obsolete, of low productivity and which do not serve the most demanding national and international market. To strengthen sweet potato cultivation, an important step is the emergence of new genotypes with superior productive potential. Considering the aforementioned information, the objective is to select experimental genotypes of orange-fleshed sweet potatoes as to the agronomic characteristics of the roots, thus aiming to obtain plants that meet the needs of producers in the West Paulista region and the demand of more demanding markets. The experiments will be installed in two planting seasons, being evaluated 12 experimental genotypes of orange-fleshed sweet potatoes recently developed by the Centro de Estudos em Olericultura e Fruticultura do Oeste Paulista in comparison to the commercial controls IAPAR 69 and Beauregard. Parameters indicative of productivity, physical quality of commercial roots and resistance to soil pests will be evaluated. It is believed that the selection of experimental orange-fleshed sweet potato genotypes is the way to generate more productive cultivars and adapted to the growing conditions of the main producing regions of Brazil.
