Abstract

Obesity is a major risk factor related to the development of metabolic and cardiovascular diseases. Recent studies indicate that Obesity accelerates aging by stimulating cellular senescence. Although senescent cells have important functions in several physiological processes, they have a highly active metabolism and a secretory profile associated with senescence (SASP) that influence the tissue microenvironment, which may compromise its function and affect the function of other tissues. Men have a higher risk of developing metabolic and cardiovascular diseases compared to women. However, obese women have a higher risk of cardiovascular and metabolic complications than obese men or thin women, suggesting that the protective effect exerted by estrogen in women is reduced in Obesity. Recent studies identified that obese mice exhibit increased cellular senescence in white adipose tissue and that depletion of senescent cells attenuated some metabolic and cardiovascular disorders associated with Obesity. However, the mechanisms involved in Obesity-induced metabolic and cardiovascular disorders in females remain largely unknown. In this sense, this study aims to evaluate the impact of cellular senescence in Obesity-related metabolic and cardiovascular disorders in female mice, as well as the role of white adipose tissue senescence in Obesity-induced cardiac hypertrophy.
