Evaluation of mechanical behavior of acrylic resin conventional printed and incorporated with nanostructured silver vanadate decorated with silver nanoparticles

Abstract

The use of conventional acrylic resins for base of complete dentures is well established in the literature, and its modification with the nanostructured silver vanadate antimicrobial agent decorated with silver nanoparticles (AgVO3) has shown promising and satisfactory antimicrobial results in relation to the other properties. Obtaining prosthetic bases through new technologies such as 3D printing requires further studies to determine the ideal printing parameters and their feasibility in relation to conventional prostheses. The objective of this study is to incorporate AgVO3 to the conventional thermosetting acrylic resin, in the concentrations of 2.5%, 5% and 10% (by mass), and to compare its mechanical performance in relation to the conventional thermosetting acrylic resin and resin for 3D printing of total denture bases. The mechanical properties and characteristics of these materials will be evaluated through: (1) surface characterization, (2) roughness, (3) hardness, and (4) flexural strength, before and after the simulation of artificial aging of the specimens by thermocycling. After the analyzes, the distribution and homogeneity of the data will be verified, and then parametric, non-parametric tests and descriptive analysis will be applied, depending on the distribution, with a significance level of 5% (± = 0.05).
