Abstract

Buccal lipectomy surgery has been performed in a significant number in recent years due to the increase in immediate aesthetic / functional requirements and its short-term results for aesthetics. However, few studies analyze if there are impairments of adjacent structures that are closely related to the buccal fat pad. The aim of this study will be to evaluate the influence of the removal of the buccal fat pad on the electrical activity of the facial muscles, on the masticatory cycles, degree of anxiety, aesthetic satisfaction and perceived quality of life before and after the surgical procedure. At least 12 patients and 12 volunteers will be selected for the control group, in an age range of 18 to 30 years, coming from the clinic of maxillofacial surgery and traumatology at the Faculty of Dentistry of Araçatuba (UNESP) respecting the inclusion and exclusion criteria. All patients will be analyzed before (T0), after 60 (T1) and 120 (T2) days before performing the bichectomy surgery in relation to the electromyographic amplitude of the masseter, buccinator and temporal muscles involving facial expressions and masticatory cycles, the degree of anxiety , aesthetic satisfaction with the procedure, and perceived quality of life. The results will be submitted to normality tests, aiming to determine whether or not they come from a normal distribution, and then the appropriate statistical test will be applied.
