Sebastião Salgado is a world reference for his social photography, which historically revealed human beings in situations of poverty. However, such photography affected his psychological health, leading him to seek a solution in his own photograph, through new characters for his work. As the photographer himself reports on several occasions, he found his "cure" while taking the photographs for the Genesis project. This research will seek to contribute to the academy by studying a necessary and natural approximation of the photographer with the photographed object. The research will develop a deep-sea case study of Sebastião Salgado,of his transformation of gaze and his encounter with nature based on his own account in the work From my land to Earth and confirming this account with the methodology of the connotations of two works: Exodus and Genesis, which, according to the photographer himself, represent a personal and professional transformation. The methodology will be complemented by the methodology of connotations, represented by the combination of the proposals of Barthes (1980) and Eco (1995), and in-depth interview. It is expected, with the results achieved, to analyze the transformations of the photographer's gaze from the works Exodus and Genesis. (AU)
