Comparative evaluation of microleakage between a nanoparticulate bulk-fill resin, bulk resin with GIOMER technology and restorative glass ionomer in primary molars prepared with Er: YAG laser: in vitro study

Abstract

The ER: YAG Laser is a type of high-power laser widely used in dentistry because it allows the selective removal of caries lesions, leading to the formation of cavity preparations with favorable characteristics. Among them, some advantages over the conventional method can be reported as absence of vibration and pressure, and consequently the non-generation of heat, and also very subtle noise, quite different from high rotation, which is very important for the care of patients who have fear and/or anxiety related to dental treatment, with emphasis on Pediatric Dentistry. In addition to preparation, the restorative material plays an important role in the success of the restoration. In this context, the advances in restorative materials are noteworthy, with the availability in the market of numerous materials that offer advantages and good performance in the face of clinical challenges. Among these materials, we can mention the bulk bioactive composite resin, also known as "Giomer"; the bulk-fill nanoparticulate resin, represented by Filtek One Bulk Fill; and glass ionomer cement, represented by Equia Forte. A total of 60 primary molars will be randomly divided into 6 groups (n = 10). Of these, half will receive class V cavity preparations using the Er: YAG laser, while the other half will be prepared using high-speed spherical carbide drills (control group). Then, the cavities will be restored according to the materials to be tested: bulk-fill nanoparticulate resin, bulk composite with giomer technology, and restorative glass ionomer. After the restoration step, the specimens will be thermocycler and, then, the teeth will be immersed in a 0.2% dye solution, Rhodamine B, for 24 hours at 37 ° C, which will allow penetration testing and infiltration measurement. Subsequently, 1mm thick cuts will be made in the buccal-lingual direction of the teeth to evaluate microleakage, using an optical microscope, while the morphological characteristics will be assessed by scanning electron microscopy. The data obtained will be analyzed by appropriate statistical programs, with a significance of pd0.05.
