Abstract

Violacein is a natural compound with antibacterial, antiparasitic and antitumor activity. Several published studies have shown that violacein induces apoptosis, but the mechanism for this has remained unclear. Using a genomic chemical profile in yeasts, we have identified direct targets of violacein: chaperones Hsp70. The present work aims to elucidate the cellular effects of the inhibition of Hsp70 chaperones in yeast cells.
