Abstract

This research aims to determine the fabric of the magnetic minerals that occur in the dikes of the Florianópolis (SC) dike swarm by determining the anisotropy of the anhysteretic remanent magnetization (AARM). The aim of this research is to verify whether the magnetic lineation given by AARM is or not coaxial to the lineation given by anisotropy of magnetic susceptibility (AMS). If these lineations are not coaxial, the lineation given by AARM will be compared to those obtained in the dikes of the Serra do Mar dike swarm on the northern coast of the State of São Paulo (São Sebastião, Ubatuba and Ilhabela), which have the same structural direction as the Florianópolis dikes. The lineation given by AARM in the dikes on the north coast of the state of São Paulo is tectonic origin and is parallel to the direction of the extensional efforts that caused the opening of the Atlantic Ocean. The results of this research will contribute to the development of tectonic models responsible for the Gondwana break-up. (AU)
