A Ph. D. project aiming new experimental and computational techniques in the field of Coherent Optical Communications is submitted. Those technologies comprise the characterization and modeling of photonic devices including Semiconductor Optical Amplifier (SOA) switching action, as well as fast-optical nonlinear induced carrier distortion effects using SOAs. Among nonlinear effects, the chirp, jitter and spectral linewidth analyses of electromagnetic coherent emissions are contemplated. A real time scope with ultrafast acquisition of the coherent detected optical carrier information and the offline numerical algorithms are the kernel of our process. During previous works, six full papers were published (with Impact Factor greater than 4.1), several articles were presented at scientific conferences, and six pending patents were licensed to the Brazilian Industry PADTEC.
