Abstract

The goal of the present research project is the crisis of Brazilian Slavery in the period from 1871 to 1888. The general purpose of the investigation is to examine the political performance of the slaveholders of the macro-region structured around the Paraiba Valley, with the specific objective of understanding what political discussion and approval of the Laws of 1871, 1885 and 1888 represented for the farmers of the region and for their relationship with the Brazilian Imperial State.
