Abstract

Polymers have become widely used and recognized in recent decades, due, amongother reasons, to the need to seek efficient materials that are alternatives in view of thedepletion and high cost of inorganic compounds. Among the new methods for obtainingpolymers is photopolymerization, this reaction is based on the irradiation of visible light in thepresence of a photoinitiating species that, when excited by light, promotes a radicalpolymerization reaction in the organic matrix, composed predominantly of compoundsdimethacrylates.Compared with traditional polymerization methods, photopolymerization has theadvantage of low reaction time, mild reaction conditions, the estheticity of the final polymerand moderate reaction costs, being a method widely applied in dentistry for dental restorationsand with recent applications on 3D printers, among others. Despite this, this technique stillneeds to be improved in relation to factors such as degree of conversion, toxicity of the finalproducts, resistance of the structures obtained with the polymerization process, among others, being still an area under development. For this reason, this research project proposes to synthesize different quinoliniccompounds capable of acting as type-II photoinitiators in the photopolymerization reaction ofdimethacrylated monomers (UDMA, TEGDMA, BISGMA and BISEMA). Among theobjectives, it is intended to verify the effect promoted by the different proposed quinoliniccompounds, on the total photopolymerization reaction time of the different monomers, alsoevaluating the proportion of the photoinitiators used. The polymers obtained will becharacterized through their physical and chemical properties, through the evaluation of theirstructural, optical, thermal, mechanical and solubility properties.
