Abstract

This research project aims to investigate the relationship between labor mobility (GAUDEMAR, 1977) and habitat (DAMIANI, 2017; 2009) of a fraction of the workers present in the urban verticalization process in the Vila Olímpia neighborhood, located in the southwest region of the city from Sao Paulo. Verticalization is a specific feature of urbanization and characteristic of metropolises like São Paulo. This phenomenon is a field of investigation of different themes and perspectives in the area of geographic science. However, research on the use of labor power in the production of the verticalized built environment is a theme in the field of investigations on urban verticalization, which has a scarce bibliography. Construction workers are generally defined by a high turnover of work, subcontracted as temporary workers, coming from poor regions of the country or abroad, who are in precarious conditions of reproduction. In order to achieve the objective of the research - to analyze how this fraction of the workers in the sub-sector of buildings is inserted in the production of the vertical space of the neighborhood - it will be necessary to identify and examine the forms of regimentation, as well as to locate and map the work and housing spaces , and discover who these "space producers" are (LEFEBVRE, 2015) who help create one of São Paulo's identities, its vertical landscape. In this case, methodologically, fieldwork will be necessary in the Vila Olímpia neighborhood, where construction sites and accommodation are to be found. Non-directive interviews will be conducted and quantitative aspects will also be surveyed based on the Work Statistics Dissemination Program (PDET) and the Annual Information Report (RAIS).
