For the success of the total hip arthroplasty technique in dogs, surgical planning is mandatory, and one of the factors that assists and directs the surgeon is the Canal Flare Index (CFI), so the correct calculation of CFI is essential for the characterization of the femur and implant and technique selection to be used. The aim of the present study is to compare the CFI values obtained from the calculation using different intracortical widths at the lesser trochanter region (proximal end, midpoint, and distal end) and to evaluate their influence on the CFI values and femoral category. For this, digital radiographic images will be used in the craniocaudal projection of the femur, obtained from 23 canine cadavers. The femurs will be dissected and positioned directly over the radiographic cassette. Radiographic images will be individually analyzed by three evaluators who will calculate CFI values using three different points in the region of the lesser trochanter: proximal end, midpoint, and distal end. The different CFI values obtained from each femur will be statistically compared to determine if there is a difference in the final CFI value according to the region used to obtain intracortical width at the lesser trochanter and its influence on femoral categorization.
