Abstract

The objective of science communication is making the scientific information accessible to a non-specialist audience, thus adapting the scientific discourse in a clear language, in order to establish efficient communication with the public. There is a large variety of resources used to communicate science, starting from the diffusion of scientific research at TVs, journals, magazines, and the internet; science may also be communicated through different activities like museums, science fairs, theatre, etc. Comics can be used to communicate science, informing the public about science in a enjoyable and lighter way. Because comics are a well-known media and read by the different audiences, they become a good tool to be used in science communication. Indeed, comics may contribute to spread to different audiences a large variety of academic researchs, scientific curiosities, explanation of concepts, phenomena, and other related topics. Continuing the work developed by the Center for Research, Technology and Education in Vitreous Materials - CeRTEV using comics, the project proposes the production of comics involving glass as the principal subject, which the topics are related to developed research, as well as scientific curiosities about it. The production of the story will leave in consideration some aspects of scientific journalism writing and science communication texts. Lastly, the comics produced will be published on the internet, using social networks and blogs and after this, they will be evaluated by the public, so that the results make it possible to analyze the profile and impressions of readers in relation to the comics.
