Abstract

The tooth lost is a serious condition that mainly affects the elderly population and difficult the oral rehabilitation due the consequent bone atrophy in the alveolar process. The progressive bone resorption and the maxillary sinus pneumatization can prevent dental implants placement and prosthetic rehabilitation in the maxillary posterior region. Surgical techniques for elevation of sinus membrane and grafts utilization allow the bone reconstruction of this region. The autogenous bone graft remains the gold standard to reconstruct areas with bone defects because of its osteogenic, osteoinduction, and osteoconduction properties. Nevertheless, because demanding another surgical site, biomaterials, such as hydroxyapatite derived from bovine bone cortex, are being used as bone substitutes in maxillary sinus, with promising outcomes. Nowadays, the literature show us many studies about utilization of Bio-Oss as xenograft in the maxillary sinus, with excellent results. However, the Endobon represents a optional biomaterial with molecular characteristics like a human medullary bone. This material is largely used in bone fractures and pathological cavities, but clinical studies about the use in maxillary sinus graft are rare. Thus, the aim of this study is do a prospective and comparative evaluation betwen Endobon® and autogenous graft in human maxillary sinus, analyzing the histomorphometric, imunohistochemical and microtomographics aspects.
