Abstract

Complaint in any symptom is a determining factor for early screening and diagnosis. However, the difficulty in swallowing is not always quickly tracked in some neurological diseases and this identification may be related to the degree of pathophysiology impairment in each disease. Objective: This study aims to relate complaints of swallowing difficulty with pharyngeal findings in individuals with neurogenic oropharyngeal dysphagia of different etiologies. Method: Observational clinical study. It will be collected from the database and new cases, of specialized service in the diagnosis and rehabilitation of individuals with oropharyngeal dysphagia, the presence or absence of the swallowing complaint perceived by the individual with the risk of dysphagia and pharyngeal findings by fiberoptic endoscopic evaluation of swallowing (FEES). It will be included 120 individuals screened and diagnosed for oropharyngeal dysphagia, with distinct neurological etiologies, regardless of gender, age or time/stage of the disease. Group 1 will consist of 40 individuals with Stroke (G1-AVE), group 2 of 40 individuals with Parkinson's Disease (G2-DP) and group 3 of 40 individuals with Amyotrophic Lateral Sclerosis (G3-ALS). The presence or absence of the swallowing complaint will be compared with the findings of posterior oral spillage, pharyngeal residue and laryngotracheal penetration/aspiration observed in FESS. The statistical test will be performed for comparison between groups. (AU)
